How the Water Softener Works:
- When water enters the vessel containing ion exchange material, known as resin, the resin is charged with sodium ions and has negatively charged beads, while calcium and magnesium, which cause water hardness, are positively charged cations.
- The positively charged calcium and magnesium ions are attracted to the resin and are trapped, resulting in water exiting the vessel free from hardness-causing minerals.
- The resin releases the calcium and magnesium ions during the backwashing process.
- When the sodium level in the resin decreases, it is recharged using a brine tank.
- Both the backwashing and recharging processes are automatically controlled by the Softener Control Valve located at the top of the vessel.
